Handmade cards
The handmade paper workshop is
an activity that teaches the payoff of putting
in time and effort, and learning to be respectful and patient while waiting for
the end result.
It starts with the recycling of paper, a
fundamental concept in the process of transforming one material into
another.
In reality, the work already begins in the
various focolare with the gathering of paper to be recycled
and its transfer inside the laboratory.
The phase of shredding the paper for
its maceration, or soaking, has a relaxing "therapeutic" effect,
as is in any activity that requires attention but repetitiveness.
The paper is then put to macerate in water until
it is reduced to a pulp.
This is followed by the creation of sheets by
means of special frames which, immersed in the paper pulp, extract
the fibers, placing them on the bottom of the frame and creating a sheet of
paper.
Their beauty lies precisely in their diversity, which
depends on the arrangement of the fibers in the loom, always different
and unique.
By adding color, sheets of any hue can be
produced.
Each phase is a
physical process that provides great value, such as the development of sensory
awareness, the stimulation of creativity and imagination, the development of
manual skills in the use of equipment, and ultimately the
development of skill in group work and exploration of artistic
materials.
Most of the activities carried out daily in the
laboratory are aimed at participating in market exhibitions and the production
of objects commissioned by our donors.
