Music Therapy
The individual music
therapy courses are active and expressive through the use of rhythmic and
melodic instruments, singing, body percussion, and active listening.
They aim to
support the participants in a stimulating context that enables the improvement
of communication skills and the management of emotions.
Music lends
itself as a channel through which to work on underlying skills. These skills
are both psychological and physical.
Think for
example of anxiety (psychological) and breathing (physiological) and how much
they are connected and interdependent.
In the music
therapy laboratory, you have trust and support, free to experience self-expression,
listening to oneself and to the other, emotional resonance, exploration of
limits and resources, and can work to recognize areas of developmental
potential (zones of proximal development) specific to each individual.
In fact, each session
is specifically designed for each participant so that it can both treat and support
specific needs, and be pleasant and sustainable in an atmosphere of play and
complicity.
In some cases,
where it is considered helpful with individual processes, the sessions may
include working in pairs.
Where possible,
the “rhythm with signs” method is also used, a method of conducting for
orchestras that favors improvisation with the guidance of a conductor who
communicates to the musicians through the use of coded signs.
